This is my favorite time of the year.
I literally get more psyched about this season than I do about Christmas. Yes, the nativity is fantastic. The pictures are lovely. The sentiments are warm and fuzzy. “Christ is born!” is a wonderful proclamation.
But “It is finished” and “He is risen!” are the two best things our sinful ears can ever hear.
This is the season of sacrifice, payment and resurrection, and my heart just wants to sing. I really hope that this gets your blood pumping too.
How do you prepare for this season?
Life is busy and it’s really easy to suddenly look up and realize that it’s on top of us. Especially this year when we’re locked down or isolated and out of our normal rhythm.
That’s why I’m sending this email now. It’s your 2 week warning that something really big is about to happen. It’s time to start preparing your heart and your life to remember and celebrate that sin and death have been defeated.
What is your tradition for celebrating the Resurrection? Is there something you do to remind you and get your heart ready to face the truth of what really happened 2,000 years ago? Maybe it’s something you did as a child.
Reply to this email and tell me about your Resurrection Day traditions.
I remember that as a kid when I was 14 my parents baked a bunch of sheet cakes and as a family we carved out scenes of Calvary and the empty tomb, then decorated it all with colored frosting. That is a very vivid memory that I hold dear of a resurrection celebration. These days, I’m more inclined to blast Don Francisco’s “He’s Alive” throughout the house on Sunday morning.
It’s important that we remind ourselves of the truths that have changed our lives. I encourage you to tell yourself every day that He is Risen, death is defeated and your life is in Him.
Blessings,
Dennis
PS. My entire married life, I’ve celebrated the Passover, just like Jesus did in the upper room with His disciples. I’ve done it with my family of 4 at home and I’ve done it at church with 150 of my spiritual family. This celebration is an integral part of my Resurrection Day anticipation and preparation.
Last year I wrote a short book about Passover and how Jesus used the symbolism of the Passover to give communion or the Lords Supper to His disciples and ultimately to us. It has changed the way I take the cup and the bread. I think this is information that EVERY CHRISTIAN should have.
For this week only, I’ve discounted the book to just 99 cents. The paperback is only $4.99. I would love for you to take advantage of this low price to invest in your own preparation for the Resurrection. But act now because on Sunday the book will go back up to its normal price.
