For some people that means it’s time to set goals for the year. For others, it’s time to laugh at those people who are making resolutions.
People who study this kind of stuff tell us that New Year’s resolutions don’t really work. By March, most of them have gone by the wayside. So if you a scoffer, science is on your side.
But I have learned that I’m really a goal driven person. The act of making a goal is really key to making me pursue and meet the goal. It’s how I’m wired.
What’s the best New Year’s resolution you’ve ever made (or the most ridiculous one you’ve heard someone else make)?
I’ll own that the best resolution I have made in recent history was to ride my bike 2,000 miles in a year. I was struggling with my life style becoming too sedentary. So this was my way to inject activity. I rode to work, I rode at lunch, I rode on the weekends. All in all I made 2005 miles with only 2 days left in the year.
This year I want to reprise that goal. Not to the same extent, though. That took a lot of dedication. I think 1,200 miles will keep me active. That’s what I’m looking for. And now I’ve said it out loud. So it feels more real.
I’ve also been thinking about my writing goals for the year. I’ve got plans for 3 books, which would be an increase from this year (2 books). One of the books is already half written. It’s a small group study, or a devotional, exploring 10 miracles. I’ve got the first 5 chapters out for advanced reader feedback. If you want the first half for free and are willing to answer a few questions about the book, you can sign up here.
There’s actually one goal I’ve been considering, but I’m not sure about. If I’m honest, it’s the goal that frightens me. I’ve been hearing a lot about audio, and I’m trying to decide if it’s time to turn Study the Bible into an audio book. I’d love to do the audio myself, but that seems like a lot….
What would you advise? If you think I should do the audio book, definitely send me a reply and let me know why. I’d value your thoughts.
The bottom line is that I’m looking forward to the next 12 months. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. My prayer for you is that the next year is good for you too. Thanks for joining me on the journey.
