In the US where I live, today is Mother’s Day. So I would be remiss if I didn’t start off with a greeting and hearty “Happy Mother’s Day” to all the mothers reading this.
I’ve been chewing on something for a couple weeks. Something I’ve meant to share with you. It’s something that kind of bothers me – both in it’s actual content and in the fact that it’s taken me so long to figure out that I had an issue with it.
Let me back this up and share some context with you. I listen to a lot of podcasts – mostly about writing. I like to think it keeps me sharp and updated on the craft and business side of something I spend a lot of time thinking about. Writing books.
One of the podcasts that I listen to is about “mindset”. Yes. there is a lot of mental stress around writing. But I’m not here to bore you with that. The podcast is hosted by a woman who is very skilled in personality stuff. Her mom used to have a podcast that I also listened to and I know that she ended it to move to Phoenix where she does a lot of women’s Bible studies.
So… what that means is that the mom is a Christian. Make whatever assumption you want about the daughter. For my part, I have my own share of questions.
But here’s the point I really wanted to get to… The daughter, in her “mental state talk” spends a lot of time talking about how “our brains evolved and are geared to protecting us from physical threats.”
Yes, it’s 100% evolutionary mindset. The idea that our brain evolved from some kind of caveman perspective where survival was a function of not trusting the world around us which was inherently dangerous and needed a psychological alignment to cope with.
To be clear, I absolutely reject this mindset.
This evolutionary perspective is 100% in opposition to the truth of the Bible.God created human beings and put them in an idyllic garden with instructions to tend it. This is not cavemen trying to survive woolly mammoths and saber toothed tigers.
Here’s the thing.
The podcaster says “our brains evolved to keep us safe” in the most reasonable tone. It’s so easy to hear it and say “yeah, survival of the fittest…”
Hold on just a minute…
I don’t believe that.
Not for one moment.
But when it comes out of a “reasonable person’s mouth” it is so easy to just say “yeah sure”.
But that is a denial of my faith. It’s aligning with a worldview that is inherently opposed to God.
I’ve just noticed recently how easily that slips into modern vocabulary and how easy it is to go along with it.
I don’t want to do that.
I want to fight against that godless perspective on reality.
And I big part of me wanted to share this with you. To remind myself and remind you that this is not the way that God created us. We were not created for lies such as this. We were called to worship God and bring His glory to bear on every day situations.
I’m thinking about canceling this podcast. I’m not sure what good could come from this kind of lie. It’s a way that I can reinforce the truth of what I believe. By saying “no” with my subscription button.
Where do you hear the same thing? Is this something you hear as well? How do you reject such humanistic lies?
I wanted to call this out and bring it to your attention. It’s a matter of principle that we love truth and advance it against the lies of the Devil.
So give it a moment of thought. Where do you hear lies like this and how can you reject them?
I’d love to hear your story.
