HI ,

The Christian life can be a grind. Living in the world, surrounded by a culture in full blown rebellion against God can feel suffocating.

After a few days out on our own, our spiritual life can feel thin. And what’s even worse, that can seem “normal.”

I know this is how I feel.  By Tuesday I’m fighting my way through the week, focused on job and family and getting “my stuff” done. I read my Bible in the morning, but I still feel like i’m too much “in the world.”

By the time I get  back to Sunday, I need a serious pick-me-up

And that’s exactly what I find in church. Worshiping God is the balm that soothes my world-worn soul. Remembering how much higher He is above me, how much more capable and holy and powerful matters.

It lifts me up. It rejuvenates me. It energizes me.

On Sundays I find my greatest inspiration and creativity. Both for fiction and non-fiction.  It’s when I feel close to God, and that really gets my mind rolling.

You don’t have to be creative or write to get value out of church.  But I have to believe that everyone needs to be spiritually re-balanced. We need to reconnect to God and be transformed by that.

Today is a short email. Just enough to say that Church matters. I need to be there every week.  And I think you do too. We need what happens there because it changes us.

And we need to be changed.  Again and again.

I think of this as a little PSA for going to church.  I hope you are plugged in.  I hope it fuels your soul. I know it does mine.
